Quantum Design, a privately held company, was incorporated in the state of California in 1982. The Company was established to provide customers with design and engineering capabilities in specific areas of applied physics. Originally conceived as a hardware-oriented research and development firm, Quantum Design’s success as an instrument company came with its unique expertise in the use and development of low-temperature SQUIDs (Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices). These ultra sensitive cryogenic transducers, normally configured as magnetic field sensors, became the heart of highly sophisticated measuring systems in a broad range of applications. Benefiting from patented designs and processes, Quantum Design has become the leading commercial source for components and integrated systems incorporating superconducting technology. Such application areas include materials characterization, high-sensitivity electrical measurements, and defense-related magnetic anomaly detection.
